Kündekari Doors

Door is an important decorative elements for Ottomans. Doors which will be exposed to the outer effects is mostly made of hardwood (oak, walnut, ash tree, pear, chestnut, elm, Paulownia, black sapote, boxwood and sipo, sapelli, kosipo, bubinga, teak, venge, purple hard, etc as exotic lumber at present). Kündekari doors are generated from combining wooden parts (tables and mullions) with motrise-and-tenon joint. It should be noticed that each chip is in reverse direction chip next to it when the parts are placed; thus the doors building of which has been completed preserves its perpendicularity for centuries without operation due to changes in heat and humidity. Both right-angular and poligonal patterns are used in Kindekari doors. Sometimes, interior parts of these patterns are ornamented with mother-of-pearl or tortoise shell and sometimes yellow metal bars are used among the parts, and diverse color wood types and metals such as lead or brass are used in the edge gaskets. Rear surfaces of Kündekari doors are built as rough and panel door in order to support Kündekari. Since Kündekari door is the showiest door type used by Ottomans, stiles, cross pieces and mullions of these doors are much ornamented in general. These surfaces are mostly ornamented with Rum, Arabic, geometric or calligraphic patterns using carving technique. We bring you together with SAMART in order to transmit you admiration that we have felt for these valuable and extant works of art which have been surviving during centuries and our broad experience in this matter. Our experience for 170 years in this regard have made some changes essential in respect of Kündekari door manufacturing technique that is above mentioned in short. As a matter of fact, as we see that largeness of rear panels has forced system consisting of small parts in the front side, we consider appropriate that parts in the front side are treated in double-sided and are manufactured with an uniform system. Consequently, while element bearing the load is uniform rear panel, intermediate mullions and panels equally share the load as they provide support to each others in the new system developed by us. This technique allows fort a door to be completely dismounted and reassembled so as to repair the parts of Kündekari doors within the course of time. However; because demounting is not possible in the doors built with the older system, worn-our parts can be performed only with decomposition technique and these interventions damage to originality og the door. Furthermore, it has been very clear that we have to contribute to these doors within the context of today’s understanding. 2 transmission shafts are installed into each horizontal stile in the doors that we manufacture, these shafts are attached to 10 cm of metal (chrome, brass) strips in thickness placed into all-along open ducts in frontons of perpendicular stiles, and with this frame that has been built, both strength of the door is increased and it is allowed for locking system to be unlocked together with this metal mechanism. Another importance matter is also door handles that we use for these doors. These handles are built from the appropriate wooden material with extempore carving by hand in such a way that none of them resemble to each other. Wooden door handles manufactured allow for you to feel richness of wood art when you offer your hands towards the door.

Sincerely Yours,,
